Community & Connection Pocket Tarot

Role: Lead Designer, Lead Developer, Project Manager, and Community-Organizer

The Community & Connection Pocket Tarot Deck is a design project celebrating the vibrant Washington, D.C., community. This pocket tarot deck celebrates cultural diversity, showcasing marginalized communities through artwork contributed by over 20 artists. It spotlights significant community spaces, notable individuals, and inclusive cultural and historical landmarks, embracing BIPOC and LGBTQ+ representation.

Where it all began

The Community & Connection Pocket Tarot started as a part of the AIGA DC SHINE Mentorship Program. I was a mentee eager to combine my love of print design and tarot. To build a sense of community between other artists and designers with D.C. natives, community leaders, and D.C. transplants all while highlighting the lesser-known community spaces or pieces of history that aren’t talked about enough right in Washington, D.C. This project was born out of a desire to educate others about tarot and to honor the exceptional craftsmanship of our artists and illustrators. Their contributions are the heart and soul of this project, and I can’t thank them enough for their dedication and talent.

Creating Something Magical

Highlighting Romani Voices

“Tarot decks like the Community & Connection Pocket Tarot, which include Roma and other BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ voices and artists, go a long way in the movement of honoring and centering those who created and perfected these practices.”

— Jezmina Von Thiele, co-host of Romanistan podcast and co-author of Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling with Paulina Stevens.
